Dominated by the magnificent 12,600-foot high Sierra Blanca Peak (44% as high as Mount Everest!), and lush with wildlife, the Alto-Ruidoso area provides a one-of-a-kind escape from urban living.
Our nearby neighbors, the Mescalero Apache tribe, for whom Sierra Blanca ("White Mountain") is considered a sacred place, provide skiing, casino games, guided big game hunts, and other adventures.
Alto Mountain Village is located in Lincoln County, New Mexico…an area rich with the history and lore of America's westward expansion. The moderate climate lends itself to fascinating day-trips to visit such diverse nearby attractions as White Sands National Monument and Park, Smokey Bear's Museum and burial site, haunts of Billy the Kid and his cohorts, Alamogordo's Space Museum and pistachio farms, and Roswell... the site of an alleged alien landing. Reflecting influences from the Old West, thoroughbred and quarter horse racing takes place at the world-famous Ruidoso Downs Racetrack and Casino from Memorial Day through Labor Day.
